Fabrics with white: choose the background, pattern, and overlays

Identify the role of white in the design

White can form the background of a print, a flower, or a contrast line. Observe a sufficiently large surface to appreciate its balance with other shades. For a solid border, check the actual shade rather than automatically choosing a very bright white.

Plan for elements visible through transparency

Check the color of pockets, facings, and linings under the fabric. Opacity depends on construction and lighting, not just on the light color. A fine seam and discreet reinforcement can contribute to the finish; test on a scrap.
