Fabrics for sweatshirts and comfortable clothing: check the useful stretch

A comfortable garment must meet the pattern's requirements, particularly regarding openings and movement. Compare the elasticity, hold, and composition of the fabric. This usage category does not mean that all references are thick fleeces.

Check the cuffs and necklines

Binding strips may sometimes need to stretch more than the body of the garment. Check their ability to regain shape and their compatibility with the assembly. If using two fabrics, compare their thicknesses and care behaviors before cutting.

Avoid distorting the seams

Choose a needle and stitch suitable for the construction. Feed the material without pulling and test the hem on a scrap. For shoulders and pockets, follow the pattern's stabilization instructions. Also, ensure that the length of the fabric includes the bands and any hood pieces.

Can the ribbing be replaced with the main fabric?

It depends on its stretch and shape recovery. The dimensions intended for ribbing do not automatically suit another knit: test the assembly and follow the pattern.
