Polka dot fabric: choose the size and rhythm of the pattern
Polka dots create a regular or more free rhythm depending on their size, spacing, and arrangement. For a shirt, dress, or skirt, compare this rhythm to the pattern's cut. A large dot can occupy a small piece almost by itself.
Place the dots on the garment details
On a collar, pocket, or button placket, decide whether you want to center a dot or keep space between two patterns. Observe the regularity of the rows to prepare the joins. Seams and darts can cut some dots: placement allows you to anticipate their effect.
Choose the drape behind the design
A fluid fabric makes the pattern move in gathers, while a firmer fabric keeps a clearer reading of the rows. Check the composition, opacity, and elasticity for your model. For contrasting shades, try the finishes and thread color on a scrap.
Do the dots have a direction to respect?
Regular round dots may seem reversible, but their arrangement or an associated pattern can create a direction. Examine the complete design before flipping the pattern pieces.
