Intermediate hold fabrics: balancing support and softness
An intermediate hold can be useful when you want a readable shape without marked rigidity. For a shirt, skirt, or dress, also compare fluidity and the construction of the piece of fabric. The result depends as much on the cut as on this single characteristic.
Choose the details to structure
A collar, placket, or belt may require local reinforcement even if the rest of the garment remains soft. Test the material with the planned interfacing and observe the pleats. Intermediate hold does not exempt you from adapting the finishes to the model.
Check the volume of assemblies
Gathers or multiple layers can produce different volume depending on the piece of fabric. Make a test on a scrap, then check the opacity and elasticity needed for the garment. The chosen length should include finishing pieces and any pattern matching.
Does this hold automatically suit a jacket?
No. A soft jacket and a structured blazer have different needs. Check the recommended uses of the reference, reinforcements, and the pattern's recommendations.
