Transparent Fabrics: Build the Overlays of Your Creation
A transparent fabric allows the background to participate in the garment's design. For a sleeve, blouse, or overlay, the lining and finishes become visible choices. Also compare the hold: a transparent fabric can be very fluid or retain more volume.
Choose the Background and Volume
A close color can extend the shade of the fabric, while a contrast highlights its pattern. To maintain lightness, think about the areas that should remain transparent and those that will be covered. The number of layers also influences volume and movement.
Care for Visible Seams
Prepare a trial of a narrow or closed finish compatible with the material. Seams, reinforcements, and pockets may be visible: their position and color should be chosen before assembly. Test marking and pins to avoid marks on the fabric.
What transparent fabric to choose for a structured volume?
Compare transparency with hold, and examine the available organzas according to their characteristics. A voile or chiffon may behave very differently despite comparable transparency.
